Friendship Quilt

Thank you to our talented Miss. Wilkinson who sewed together our pictures into a beautiful friendship quilt. It was so much fun today for the students to help her sew the letters together by controlling the pedal.

Pumpkin Patch Field Trip

We are so grateful the rain held out for our first field trip to Pepe's Pumpkin Patch in LaSalle. Students had a spectacular time and there were smiles all around. Miss. Holly and "the good witch" were pleasantly surprised with how much our students knew about the life cycle of the pumpkin! Next we headed off on a hayride where we saw a deer and the pumpkin patch. The farmer explained to us the life cycle of the pumpkin and we asked several good questions including " How long does it take to grow?" and "Why does it turn green then orange?" He even showed us how the deer and coyote open up the pumpkins and eat the seeds. Next the good witch directed us through a corn maze where we counted the scarecrows and ran into many dead ends.  She explained that they ground up the corn and us it in many products that we use everyday like gasoline, candy, and tires!  Then we headed back into the greenhouse where we had our aces painted and played hot potato with an apple as a consolation prize. Finally they presented each student with a pumpkin and back on the bus we went....exhausted from a fun filled afternoon!

Outdoor Play

The students have been really interested in the musical instruments ever since we began exploring them with patterns. Monday we brought the instruments outdoors with us and the next thing we knew we had a marching band experimenting with different sounds outside and a concert performance for a small group.

Playing Our Patterns

Students have been showing a great interest in the instruments we have in our classroom so we decided to combine that inquiry with our study of patterns. Students first created a pattern using pictures of instruments in our room. Next students chose a "conductor" to point to the pictures as they read their "sheet music" during our classroom concert.

We filled The Bucket!

Thank you to our families for continuing to send in the bucket filler slips. Between the overwhelming response from our families and the great acts of kindness our students have demonstrated at school, we have already filled our classroom bucket! We will celebrate tomorrow with a popcorn party. Keep sending in the bucket filler slips!
