A little slice of home

Thank you to our families for sending in your photos for our family tree wall. It is so nice to see the students get excited when they see their loved ones.
Also a big thank you for participating in our fill the bucket activity. Students have already filled our bucket at achool 2 times! I can only imagine what they are doing at home!

Reading Buddies

We were so happy to welcome Mrs. Meo's grade 6 students into our room today for our first of many Reading Buddies. Once we paired them up, our students enjoyed showing them our classroom and all of the fun activities. We cannot wait for our next session:)

It started with a pine comb.....

Last week one student brought in a pine comb that he picked up on the way to school. He was excited to show the others and it peaked the interest of the other students. Today we started to discuss what we were noticing outside....some of their ideas were the "weather is changing", "the leaves are changing colours", "the leaves are falling", "it is going to be fall", " I was born in fall", "Halloween is in fall." Today we went on a walk outside to spot other signs of fall. The students were so excited to find a variety of colours of leaves, along with twigs, rocks and flowers.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

This week students were inspired to explore letters after reading a favourite book called Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. Students are developing an understanding that letters are everywhere!

Colour Exploration

Students had a few visits from "Mrs. Mix a lot " who showed them how mixing colours made new colours. They had a chance to explore colour mixing at the light table, with marble painting, at the water table, and with a magic potion of vinegar water and baking soda. What great observations our little scientists are making!

Here is a link to the books we read in class about colours and colour mixing: And our class favourite..... Pete The Cat!

Colour Questions

Early lastweek students developed an interest in the colour of the water in our water table. They began to wonder how it changed colour and when. Popular ideas were "overnight when we were sleeping" or because of the coloured toys   themselves.
