Spider Inquiry

All it took was a brave little spider who dropped down from our ceiling to spark a week long inquiry into spiders. Thanks to Miss. Wilkinson and her speedy photgrapher skills we were able to catch his descent intou our classroom.

We decided together to put him in our science table to explore him further.
One student even spotted another spider who made a home on the outside of our classroom window.
Soon students were inquiring about what spiders eat, giving our spider a name (Spiderman), collecting materials for him to live in, making spiders from materials at the art centre and even making a human sized spider web. Students loved using Mrs. Litynsky's iPad to watch you tube videos of real live spiders spinning and catching their food. Even better was afterwards they re-enacted how spiders catch their prey and spin them in webs. What an enriching learning experience!
