Surprise Visitors

The students were delighted to have a visit from some firefighters today. They showed us their special equipment and let us go in their truck and play with the hoses. We had the opportunity
to ask them questions and they reminded us to turn our clocks back this Saturday, as well as change the batteries in our smoke detectors.

Pumpkin Inquiry

Last week after reasting our pumpkin seeds, inara happened to find an extra one hanging around. I asked her what she wanted to do with it. She said " plant it". So we put it in a cup with dirt, added some water and pit it in the sun. Some friends even made predictions about what  would happen.
Jayden-" it will spill over"
Inara-"it will grow a pumpkin"

Today we checked on the cup and were delighted to see a lot had happened over the weekend. We documented our observations through Pic Collage, our favourite documentation tool!

Outdoor Learning

We went outside armed with some instruments from our classroom. What beautiful music we made!

Some students experimented with making music with the instruments by themselves, others used the equipment, fence and wall to create a variety of sounds. Some friends created small bands and choirs while others drummed to their own beats! Some even took on the role of conductor and instructed students to play " loudly" and "softly"

More pumpkin inquiry

On Friday while exploring Gourds, Paiyton asked, "Can we eat the seeds?" We did some research on the internet and discovered that in fact we could eat the seeds, but must wash them first, then cook them in the oven.

So today, after using our Scientist Senses to explore pumpkins, we collected all of the seeds, washed them, cooked them in the oven and finally enjoyed the fruits of our labour. Our survey showed that the most of our friends enjoyed the roasted pumpkin seeds.

Eating our words...... I mean numbers!

We have been working with numbers a lot lately and today students helped me sort the numbers by curvy and straight lines. Some very clever friends quickly realized some numbers had both curvy and straight lines. They decided to put them in the middle. Next we used curvy and straight pretzels to make some more numbers. Some students discovered how the pretzels could be shaped into letters too!
