Friday Fun

After exploring gourds in the science centre with scales, still life painting them at the art table, students finally had the opportunity to become scientists and explore the insides of the gourds. We discussed how scientists use their 5 senses ( see, hear, smell, taste, touch) to make observations. Here are some of ours:

Sieanna- "It smells like pumpkin guts", "They feel smushy like apple sauce", "The inside looks like a cave."

Hannah- "It smells like oranges", "The seeds are different sizes"

Inara-"It smells like lemons"

Chloe- "The seeds look like candy", "Look I got all of the seeds out"

Paiyton- "It smells weird. Can we eat them?"

Jaxon- "it looks like watermelon"

Noah-"This one is bumpy"

Gracie-" They have seeds in it."

After watching his play at the puppet centre, this student became curious about what other things he could find out about sharks. He wanted to know what they ate, and what those "dinosaur" lines were on the shark. We researched the information on the computer then labelled the parts of the shark and presented the information to his classmates with his puppet. Way to go!

This student made a connection to something she saw while visiting family. Cannot wait to learn more about the windmills.....future inquiry?????

While outside today, we took out our sidewalk chalk and decided to experiment with water and the chalk. Immediately students started to notice the colour was "darker" and "brighter."  They even friend creating pictures on paper with the "new" colours.
